NEWS & HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
As long-time followers of Women and Hollywood will know, for years we previously ran many interviews with women directors at festivals, which we published on the website (that full database is still available here). Moving forward, our objective is to continue publishing interviews with creatives whose voices we need to hear. In case you missed it earlier this week, we shared our very first interview in this new series, with Rachel Mason, director of the new documentary “Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna” - you can read it here. Keep an eye out for further editions in your inbox.
Trailer watch: Max has dropped a trailer for season 4 of the Emmy Award-winning comedy series “Hacks,” which once again sees legendary Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) at loggerheads with her former writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder). The series returns April 10. Smart is also set to tread the boards this summer, with her return to Broadway scheduled in one-woman show “Call Me Izzy.” The dark comedy, written by Jamie Wax and directed by Sarna Lapine, is due to run at Studio 54 for 12 weeks, starting May 24.
Following a competitive bidding war, Netflix has landed the rights to a crisis PR drama starring Lizzy Caplan, Deadline has revealed. Currently in development, the potential series is based on New York Magazine article “Get Me Risa Heller!” by Shawn McCreesh, which profiles the titular PR veteran. The project comes by way of Halley Feiffer (“American Horror Story: Delicate”), who will serve as showrunner and writer, and A24, and would follow Caplan as New York’s premiere crisis PR fixer helping high-profile clients navigate personal disasters while trying to maintain her own image as a happily married mother-of-three.
