Serena Williams is on board to exec produce a series adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling tennis-themed novel “Carrie Soto Is Back,” Deadline has exclusively revealed. The project, which is in development at Netflix, comes from writer and executive producer Amanda Kate Shuman (“The Wheel of Time,” “The Blacklist”), and follows the titular tennis player, a legend renowned for her determination to win at all costs, who steps out of retirement for one more year in an attempt to reclaim her world record. While the character is not based on Williams, Deadline notes that the series is expected to be loosely inspired by her story.
Trailer watch: Prime Video has dropped a trailer for “Another Simple Favor,” the follow-up to Paul Feig’s 2018 dark comedy “A Simple Favor.” The sequel, penned by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis, sees frenemies Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) reuniting on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. You can expect more twists, turns, and betrayal when the movie lands on the streamer May 1.
